The G+ Notable Communities Database (G+NCDB) is an attempt to list notable and well-known Google+ communities, and their present or future online locations.

As there were over 8 million Google Communities, not all are, or can be, listed here. Even discounting smaller communities, there are many tens of thousands of large groups to consider. We have more statistics on the Migrating Google+ Communities page. In the spirit of inclusion, noteable G+ Collections may also be listed here.

As with much else here, we're working out just how to do this, so bear with, and contributions welcomed.

This list is incomplete. Please help expand it.

PUBLISH WELL-KNOWN SOCIAL MEDIA OR BLOG ADDRESSES FOR PUBLIC COMMUNITIES ONLY, NOT EMAIL OR OTHER PERSONAL CONTACT INFORMATION, CLOSELY-HELD ONLINE IDENTITIES OR PSEUDONYMS, OR INFORMATION ON NON-PUBLIC COMMUNITIES AND GROUPS.

Criteria[edit]

Entries should consist of communities which are notable, had a Google+ presence, and engaged significantly there.

Simply being large or having many members should not generally be a factor. Communities should have actively engaged members.

(Though it's expected that unengaged communities will simply die out.)

Criteria are subject to revision.

Format[edit]

Please list:

  • Name, linked to G+ Community page
  • Brief, one sentence description.
  • The official move announcement, if available.
  • Known primary forum, blog, microblog, social media, and/or feeds (RSS/Atom).

In the form:

Commune Itty, A Place of the People. forum blog microblog social wiki feed

MediaWiki Markup template:

Note that [<term>] blocks should be filled with [<URL> <label>].

G Suite Communities[edit]

This is a partial listing of known G Suite Communities which will survive the Consumer G+ shutdown. However they are not publicly accessible. (Though they may be for other G Suite G+ users.)

Source

We plan on scanning for possible other G Suite communities from several large archives of Community pages, though it's not clear that this information is present, as of 1 April 2019.

Other[edit]

Uncategorised / Pending[edit]

Use this space to post communities for inclusion / pending classification.

CircleCount maintained a list of highly-followed communities, snapshots now exist in The Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. Collection was discontinued by 1 June 2016, resulting from G+ discontinuing API access.

13 March 2016: lists 200 communities, from 5.89m to 380,129 members. 1m+: 47 communities, 500k+: 151. #10: 2.4m, #25: 1.7m, #50 984.2k, #100: 657.5k, #150: 502.7k, #175: 448.2k.

Final capture: 16 April 2016: lists 200 communities, from 5.9m to 404,548 members. 1m+: 54 communities. 500k+: 158. #10: 2.6m, #25: 1.8m, #50: 1.0m, #100: 695k, #150: 520k.

Spot checks suggest most of the top 10 communities no longer exist. Unfortunately, direct links aren't provided, so name-search is necessary. This is not particularly reliable.

Announced Moves[edit]

These reports need to be sorted into the classifications above.

Largely based off of posted / reshared notices to G+MM's contacts classification:

Top 25 Biggest Communities on Google+ (Dec 10 2012)[edit]

From Dan Leveille on G+, 10 Dec 2012.

These are not necessarily notable, but they are candidates for notability. Six of the 20 no longer exist, three of the remaining have most recent posts approaching a year old, that is, effectively abandoned. Almost 50% of the set.
